Steps for eternal life
At one point or another, we all end up asking ourselves whether or not there’s more to live for than the day in, day out rhythm of life. We look for purpose, peace, security, love and a host of other solutions to whatever our questions may be.
The good news is that there is more to live for. Jesus tells us that He came “so [we] can have real and eternal life, more and better life than [we] ever dreamed of.” (John 10:10)
Steps to understand and receive a real and eternal life through Jesus:
- Admit you are a sinner. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
- Understand that, without salvation, you will die. “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:23)
- Accept the gift of grace. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift from God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
To accept this free gift of grace, you must:
- Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sin. “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
- Confess your sin. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9)
Prayer of Decision
God, I want to live for more. I realize that I’m not perfect and am separated from You because of my sin. I realize the punishment for my sin is death, yet I trust that Jesus died in my place and conquered death through His resurrection. I accept the gift of grace You offer me through Jesus and pledge to live for more. I pray in Jesus’ Name, amen.
